    A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) is the standard approach for an initial ecology survey where there is no existing site information or when an ecology survey has not been undertaken for some time. The survey involves mapping and describing the habitats present on a site. Our approach to the survey and classification of habitats follows the CIEEM Guidelines for Preliminary Ecological Appraisal.
